Peroxidase-Catalyzed Co-Oxidation of Chromogenic Substrates and Flavonoids. pp. 66-83
Summary: A comparative kinetic study of the influence of five flavonoids on the peroxidase-catalyzed oxidation of the chromogenic substrates - 3,3'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), o-phenylenediamine (PDA) and diammonium salt of 2,2'-azino-bis-(3-ethyl-2,3-dihydrobenzthiazolin-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) has been carried out under standart conditions at 20°C in 0,015 M phosphate-citrate buffer, pH 6,3 containing 5 - 10% of N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). The character of an effect depends on the medium pH, the substrate's nature and the flavonoid's structure: silibin activated an oxidation of the all substrates, but quercetin - only the PDA oxidation; morin, quercetin, naringin and hesperidin inhibited the TMB oxidation and quercetin - the ABTS oxidation by the competitive manner. The inhibiting flavonoid's ability characterized by the inhibition constant, Ki, mM or the inhibition degree (%) decreased in following manner: quercetin > morin >> naringin = hesperidin and was maximal for the pair TMB-quercetin. At pH > 6, an activation of the peroxidase-dependent oxidation of the pairs TMB-silibin, PDA-quercetin and PDA-silibin was characterized by a coefficient (degree) of activation, a, M-1 and arrived for the pair TMB-silibin at pH 6,8 value 2,4 x 104 M-1. The character of the flavonoid's effect on the peroxidase-catalyzed oxidation of chromogenic substrates is determined by a direction and a rate of non-enzymatic "exchange" reaction of aminyl and phenoxyl radicals of the substrates and the flavonoids respectively.

Expression of membrane complement inhibition factor CD59 in bicistronic cassette. pp. 84-92
Summary: Immune rejection, in particular complement system activation, leads to noticeable reduction in graft survival after xenotransplantation. With purpose to design a bioengineering system for complement protection, CD59 sequence has been isolated from human cDNA by PCR, verified by sequencing after subcloning to pBluescript and inserted into mammalian expression vector under CMV promoter. IRES sequence downstream of CD59 provided translation of hrGFP for efficient transfection monitoring. However, up to 20% of transfected cells expressed CD59 but not GFP, with overall transfection efficiency of 95% and more. Transgene expression was monitored for >2 weeks with no significant reduction of expression, which allows testing the system created for acute graft rejection prevention.

Endotoxemia in eating disorders' patients: cytotoxicity of blood serum as marker of eating disorder state. pp. 93-104
Summary: In cross-sectional case-control study we have evaluate the cytotoxicity index (CTI) as a marker of endotoxemia status in eating disorders' patients (anorexia nervosa, n=83; bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder, n=42; healthy control, n=36). It has been point out that eating disorders patients are strongly different from age- and sex-matched control group aught to the endotoxemia level. Food restriction with the matter of appearance control has a positive correlation with cytotoxicity index (R= 0,.53; ð<0.01). Body mass index (BMI) as well as the level of eating disorders symptoms are independent predictors of the CTI. Discriminate analysis reveal stronger classification properties for cytotoxicity index than BMI for delimitation eating disorders patients from healthy control subjects (78.7% vs. 72.5%).

Magnetic properties of Mn1+xSb (0£x£0.5) alloys, including exposed to thermobaric treatment. pp. 105-109
Summary: Magnetization dependence on temperature T = 77 - 650 K in field of 8.6 kOe for Mn1+xSb (0£x£0.5) alloys, annealed from 1350 K, as well as exposed to thermobaric treatment (P = 80 kbar, T = 2300 K, t = 5 min) is investigated. It is established, that the both increase of manganese content in alloys and influence of high pressure and temperature lead to considerable decrease of magnetization and Curie point. It is supposed, that the mechanism of the magnetic characteristic changes is determinated by two factors: sized and vacancied ones.
