The effect of La and Ba substitution on properties of LaBaCuFeO5+d. pp. 5--8

Summary: The effect of lanthanum (barium) substitution on the structure, thermo- and electrophysical properties of the layered lanthanum-barium ferrocuprate has been studied. It has been found that substitution in the A-sublattice of LaBaCuFeO5+d leads to increasing of thermal expansion coefficient and charge transport activation energy in the -- (Cu,Fe)O2 -- layers of the lanthanum-barium ferrocuprate. Electrical conductivity of the samples decreased with donor substitution and increased with acceptor substitution of lanthanum in LaBaCuFeO5+d.

Production of defuorinated phosphoric acid by precipitation of hexafuorophosphates. pp. 9--14

Summary: Potential capabilities of precipitation method in defluorination of extraction phosphoric acid have been studied. It has been found that the residual fluorine comtent in the purified acid (no less than 0.1 wt.%) is governed by the solubility of precipitated hexafluorosilicates. Fine purification of acid is achieved by simultaneous precipitation of different admixtures. Separation of the precipitate formed from the mother liquor is the limiting step of the purification process.

Polymeric complexes based on poly(acrylic acid), poly(ethyleneglycol) and poly(vinyl alcohol). pp. 21--25

Summary: Complex formation in the system containing poly(acrylic acid), poly(ethylene glycol) and polyvinyl alcohol) and its dependence upon components' ratio, molecular mass, pH and temperature of the solution has been studied. It has been shown that thermal treatment of complexes based on high molecular mass components (poly(acrylic acid) and polyvinyl alcohol)) results in the formation of hydrogel -- a compound which has a chemically cross-linked three-dimensional lattice. This way, it has been demonstrated, it is possible to produce new materials possessing unique properties, different from initial polymers.

Summary: Distribution of alcohols and poly ols between saturated aqueous solutions of salts and organic solvents has been studied in systems (NH4)2SO4 - H2O - hexane, KF - H2O - hexane, K2CO3 - H2O - hexane, K3PO4 - H2O - hexane, KF - H2O - ethanol, K2CO3 - H2O - ethanol, K3PO4 - H2O - ethanol, KF - H2O - 2-propanol, K2CO3 - H2O - 2-propanol, K3PO4 - H2O - 2-propanol, KF - H2O - 1-butanol, K2CO3 - H2O - l-butanol, K3PO4 - H2O - l-butanol, at 20.0۪.1 °C. These extraction systems have been compared using group increments of logarithm of distribution constant. It has been found that use of water solutions of inorganic salts with lower alcohols as extractants gives the effective instrument for extraction and partition of highly hydrophilic compounds, e. g. polyols.

Anodic oxidation of oxalic acid on metal-oxide electrodes. pp. 38--41

Summary: Process of oxalic acid anodic oxidation on metal-oxide electrodes has been investigated. Kinetic parameters of this process proving the electrochemical nature of the limiting reaction stage have been determined. Effect of electrolysis conditions on current yield and oxalic acid decomposition degree has been studied. It has been established that metal-oxide electrodes possess rather high selectivity to oxalic acid oxidation process. Current yields for oxalic acid decompositions on all investigated electrodes are generally in the range of 86--93%. Current concentration affects substantially oxalic acid decomposition degree.

Stability of Co--Cu--Sn alloys’ anode oxidation products in acid solutions. pp. 48--53

Summary: Kinetic peculiarities and mechanisms for electrochemical oxidation processes of Co-Cu-Sn alloys in sulfate and sulfate-chloride acid solutions have been studied. It has been found that alloys dissolve selectively; limiting stages of the oxidation process have been determined. The effect of electrolyte composition on stability of various valence forms of anode dissolution product has been studied. Equilibrium constants of disproportionation and reproportionation reactions for equilibrium systems containing the alloy's metals have been calculated.

Biospecifc method for detection of biotinylated immunoglobulins. pp. 69--73

Summary: A test system and procedure for quantitative determination of poly-biotinylated immunoglobulins in physiological fluids and biotechnological media has been developed. The analytical principle involves the binding of different biotin residues on immunoglobulin molecule with a streptavidin-coated solid phase and a soluble streptavidin-peroxidase conjugate. The system allows biotynyl-immunoglobulin measurement in 0.1 ml of human serum in a concentration range of 5-100 µg/l and can easily be adapted to other biotinylated proteins.

Cherviakovsky E. M.
Assessment of flavonoids’ electron-donating ability using Cytochrome c. pp. 78--85

Summary: A new method for assessment of electron-donating properties of flavonoids has been proposed. The degree of the hemeprotein reduction has been determined by means of the differential absorption spectroscopy technique. Spectral data were analyzed using two calculation methods, giving close results, as demonstrated by using quercetin molecule as a model. The most and the least efficient electron donors for cytochrome c among flavonoids have been found. It has been found that structural characteristics of flavonoid molecules, such as presence of hydroxyl groups at C3 and C3' positions and double bond at C2-C3 position, as well as degree of hydroxylation, determine their electron-donating properties. The number of donated electrons depends on position and number of hydroxy groups at B-ring of a flavonoid. These data show good correlation with information on oxidative-reductive properties of flavonoids obtained for other model systems.
