Admission to postgraduate and doctoral studies announced in National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for 2019
The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus announces about the admission to postgraduate and doctoral studies on a wide range of scientific specialties in 2019. Pursuant to the Order of the Chairman of the NASB Presidium of 6 June 2019 № 35 “On the timing of admission for obtaining postgraduate education in 2019”, documents of those entering the doctoral and postgraduate studies will be accepted from 1 August to 30 September 2019. On 12 June 2019, a press conference on arranging and holding International Scientific Conference “Operation Bagration (to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi occupation)” took place at the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus. Solemn meeting with participants of 11th Belarusian Antarctic expedition to take place in National Academy of Sciences of Belarus
A solemn meeting with the participants of the 11th Belarusian Antarctic expedition will take place in the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (Minsk, 66 Independence Ave., 2nd floor, room 216) on 13 June at 15:00.
The program of the meeting includes the film about the 11th Belarusian Antarctic expedition (about 10 min), presentations by the participants of the 11th Belarusian Antarctic expedition, representatives of the Academy of Sciences, scientific institutions, and famous scientists.
Evening in memory of corresponding member of NAS of Belarus Mikhas Mushinsky to take place at Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library
On 17 June, the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will host evening “For the time and eternity...” in memory of the famous scientist, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, laureate of the State Prize of Belarus, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Mikhas Mushinsky.
Flame of 2nd European Games to welcome in Central Botanical Garden of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus
The Flame of Peace relay route will pass through the Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 20 June. The flame of the 2nd European Games was lit in Rome on 3 May. The ceremony took place in Ara Pacis Museum. The torch traveled through Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Austria, Czechia, and Poland arrived in Belarus on 12 May.
Contest for scholarships of Belarus President to postgraduate students for 2019 announced
In accordance with the Edict of the President of the Republic of Belarus №398 of September 6, 2011 “On Social Support of Students”, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus jointly with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus announced an open contest for scholarships of the President of the Republic of Belarus to postgraduate students for 2020. Candidates for the scholarships are nominated in three stages. The first and second stages for the postgraduate students studying at the NASB scientific organizations will be held at the Academy of Sciences. Information on the procedure and conditions of this open contest can be found here.
Applications that meet the established requirements must be submitted to the Main Personnel and Personnel Policy Department of the NAS of Belarus before September 16, 2019 (contact number: 284-26-03).
Academician V.A.Koptyug Prize for 2019 awarded
By the decision of the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Belarusian and Siberian scientists has been awarded the Academician V.A.Koptyug Prize for 2019 for the research work “New catalysts for the synthesis of chiral heterocyclic compounds with high pharmaceutical potential based on natural monoterpenoids.”
The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences award the Academician V.A.Koptyug Prize for outstanding results in joint research under the interstate programs, as well as for joint scientific works, scientific discoveries and inventions of great scientific and practical importance.
Youth in Science - 2.0'19
The Council of Young Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is pleased to invite to the participation of young scientists (including students, PhD and Master Degree students) in the annual international scientific conference «Youth in Science – 2.0’19». The conference will take place in Minsk, Republic of Belarus, on 14-17 October 2019.
This year the conference program includes interdisciplinary and specialized sections, a competition for the best report in English, thematic sections and a robot tournament for schoolchildren, a competition of student start-up projects, academic film viewing sessions and a cafe, visits to the organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
National Academy of Sciences of Belarus to showcase more than 200 technologies at Belagro 2019
47 organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will take part in the 29th International agricultural exhibition Belagro 2019. Scientists will showcase more than 200 developments and technologies.
The Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Agriculture will showcase seeds of new varieties of major agricultural crops. The Institute of Flax will show new varieties of flax with high yield potential and productivity. The Institute of Plant Protection will present biopharmaceuticals based on local strains of antagonist microorganisms. These drugs not only help to increase yields and improve product quality but also are environmentally safe, do not accumulate in plants. They are harmless to humans, animals, beneficial insects, and help plants to decrease the accumulation of radionuclides. These products can be used in dietary and baby food.
Modern achievements in microbiology and biotechnology to be discussed in Minsk
On 4 June 2019, at 10.00, an opening ceremony of the 11th International scientific conference "Microbial biotechnology: fundamental and applied aspects" will be held at the Big conference hall of the Belarus Hotel.
The conference will bring together more than 150 well-known scientists, young researchers, specialists of the agro-industrial sector, representatives of biotechnological companies from Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Perm, Saratov, Krasnodar), Kazakhstan (Nur-Sultan, Alma-Ata), Latvia (Riga), Belarus (Minsk, Gomel, Grodno, Vitebsk, Mogilev, Pinsk) to assess the current state, identify priorities and promising areas for further development of microbiology and biotechnology.
NASB young scientists take part in 7th Minsk International Open Robotics Tournament
The Council of Young Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus took an active part in the 7th Minsk International Open Robotics Tournament held on 31 May - 2 June at the National Exhibition Center “BelExpo.” The event was organized by the Association for Support and Development of Educational Initiatives in the Field of Science and High Technologies “Education for Future.”
Scientists from the laboratory of robotic problems of the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus presented their R&D efforts during the exhibition of educational technologies. Stanislav Yuretsky, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, delivered an educational lecture on main directions of work of the NASB Council of Young Scientists with students.

National Academy of Sciences of Belarus welcomes electric marathon
On 3 June 2019, the Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the NAS of Belarus will host the participants of the Electric Marathon 2019 World Rally for the Andrei Nagel Cup trophy.
On 27 May, electric vehicles started the 4300-kilometer-long marathon-rally from Monte Carlo (Principality of Monaco). This year’s marathon will pass through ten countries: Monaco–France–Italy–San Marino–Croatia–Hungary–Slovakia–Poland–Belarus–Russia. On 6 June, competitors will arrive at St. Petersburg that is the final point of the Electric Marathon. On June 2, electric vehicles will cross the Belarusian-Polish border, visit Brest, Mir and arrive in Minsk.

An International scientific and practical forum “Art space of Europe in the 19th – 20th centuries and Stanislaw Moniuszko: history, current state”, dedicated to the 200th anniversary since the birth of the classics of Polish and Belarusian music will take place in the NAS of Belarus on 30-31 May.
National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Korean Institute KISTI to cooperate in information technologies
On 28 May 2019, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) have signed a memorandum of cooperation in science and technology.
The document was signed by Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov and KISTI President Choi Hee-Yoon.

2nd European Biotechnological School to take place in Minsk on 27–31 May
The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Council of Young Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences in cooperation with European Biotechnology Association hold the 2nd European Biotechnological School in Minsk on 27-31 May.
The event is aimed at giving young scientists valuable skills and networks to develop their professional career, involving researchers in addressing urgent issues in biotechnology.
NASB delegation takes part in ALLEA anniversary session
Session of the General Assembly of the Association of European Academies of Sciences (ALLEA) was held in Bern in May 2019.
Over 60 representatives of the academies of sciences from 32 states arrived in Bern to participate in the event timed to the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Association. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was represented by Alexander Kilchevsky, Chief Scientific Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and Vladimir Podkopayev, Head of the Main Department for International Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
Belarus and Finland will expand scientific cooperation in interests of two peoples
On 23 May 2019, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov and Chairman of the Finnish Society of Science and Letters Jukka Meurman held talks at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. They discussed cooperation prospects between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and scientific organizations of Finland.
