Surta, Ivan Zakharovich (22.11.1893 - 20.12.1937), state figure. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1936).
Graduated from the 2nd Moscow University (1918), the Institute of Red Professorate (1932). In 1920-1926 in bodies of VChK and OGPU. In 1933-1936 People's Commissar of Public Health Services of BSSR, in 1936-1937 the President of the Academy of Sciences of Byelorussian SSR. In 1935-1937 the Member of BSSR Central Executive Committee, in 1936-1937 the Candidate in Members, and Member of the Presidium of BSSR Central Executive Committee. Was arrested in August, 1937 and sentenced to an exclusive measure of punishment. Rehabilitated in 1956.
