Hybridization of 8x- and 4x-triticales for developing intergenomic chromosome substitutions in hexaploid forms. pp. 37--41

Summary: The paper deals with the results of hybridization between triticale octoploid and tetraploid forms for introgression of chromosomes of D-genome into karyotype of hexaploid triticale. Both the genetic components of hybridization and growth conditions were shown to affect crossability. Count of the chromosome number in the first hybrid generation has revealed a wide variability range for this index (from 28 to 56 chromosomes), majority of the plants analysed having 42-chromosomes (54.5%).

Direct phytylation of exogenous chlorophyllide infiltrated into etiolated rye seedlings together with phytol. pp. 58--62

Summary: The effect of phytol on chlorophyll formation from exogenous chlorophyllide infiltrated into etiolated rye seedlings (Secale cereale L.) was examined. Phytol was shown to stimulate chlorophyll accumulation at all chlorophyllide concentrations used and maximum effect manifests itself at its saturated concentration. The results provide evidence for the ability of esterifying enzyme to perform direct chlorophyllide phytylation. Esterification of exogenous chlorophyllide is assumed to be carried out by the enzyme localized in the prothylakoids.

Analytical characteristics for determining mean weight molecules in microvolume of blood plasma. pp. 63--66

Summary: The method for determining the mean weight molecule content in a small blood volume was developed: 0.2 ml of plasma was added to 0.2 ml of 16% solution of trichloroacetic acid, after protein sedimentation 0.2 ml of supernatant was taken out and diluted in 3 ml of water with measuring absorption at 280 nm. The parameter value in the control was 0.094±0.008, the error of measurement did not exceed 10% and its variation coefficient did not 7.2%. The diagnostic significance of this parameter was estimated in children with oncohematologic diseases: it increases to 140 -- 180% at the medium degree and to 200 -- 240% at the strong degree of endogenous intoxication.

Radioecological situation of some surface-water systems in contaminated Gomel and Mogilev regions. pp. 73--85

Summary: The radioecological situation of different water ecosystems of Belarus and their components has been analysed in this article. The data on the contents of 137Cs and 90Sr in components of water ecosystems such as water, suspensions, bottom sediments and hydrobionts are given. Water ecosystems are distinguished by the state of pollution of water-collection areas and hydrological parameters. These and other reasons considered in the article influence on the character of 137Cs and 90Sr behaviour in water ecosystems.

Summary: Chemobiokinetic properties of a new immunostimulating agent called trimesone have been studied. The experiments were performed in rabbits, mice and Vistar rats. Both tablets and standard medicinal form (1% solution for injections) of trimesone have been schown to be characterized by sufficient bioavailability. The data obtained enable prediction of high pharmacotherapeutic effect of the drug.

Functional activity of lymphoid cells and acetylcholinesterase activity in thymus nerve fibers in uneven-aged rats under chronic exposure to X-irradiation and heat. pp. 92--97

Summary: Effects of prolonged separate and combined exposure to fractionated X-radiation at a total dose of 0.5 Gy and heat on the functional activity of thymic cells in young and mature rats were studied. In mature animals, the combined action of the physical factors was found to inhibit the proliferative activity of lymphocytes, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PDH) activity in the thymus, and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity in nerve fibers of this organ. In young animals, radiation and heat induced a considerable decrease in the AChE activity, without influencing the DNA synthesis and G-6-PDH activity.

Study on new features of large intestine under organ adhesion conditions. pp. 98--101

Summary: The paper deals with the results on adhesion between colon and ileum, and emergence of new features of the intestine structure during formation of its contact with terminal site of ileum in a surgical way. Earlier the possibility of moving neurocellular elements from large intestine wall to adhesions was noted. In this connection large intestine is considered as a potential nerve donor of closely located organs. The response of muscle plate of mucous membrane in large testine to the above operation is of interest. One can consider that with an increase in the time of study the possibility of emerging microfistulas between large intestine and ileum becomes evident during ileocolopexy. It is not ruled out that this phenomenon is temporary. The ability of muscle plate of mucous membrane in large intestine for regeneration should be noted. The above-mentioned fibers simultaneously with regenerating nerve fibers are involved in formation of the observed organ adhesion.

Acute trauma and neurotrophins. pp. 102--105

Summary: Bullet wounding as a powerful stress impact causes a wide range of metabolic and functional changes in all components of the integrated regulatory complex including nervous, endocrine and immune systems. They involve a sharp decrease in specific catecholamine fluorescence intensity in sympathetic ganglion neurons, adrenal chromaffin cells, immunocompetent organs -- thymus and spleen with simultaneous inhibition of nuclease activity in the spleen, a higher concentration of insulin and lower testosterone, triiodothyronine and thyroxine in blood serum. Acute trauma is accompanied by the appearance or elevation of serum concentration of endogenous neurotrophic agents which, on the one hand, substantially promote growth of sensitive neuron processes in explants of dorsal root ganglia of chiken embryos and, on the other hand, enhance enzyme expression involved in the catecholamine synthesis by rat pheochromocytoma PC12 cells. As a result, the total level of catecholamine fluorescence in them significanty increases and histograms of cell distribution according to fluorescence intensity shift towards higher values. Since similar effects are evoked by a nerve growth factor, it may be suggested that this regulatory protein is also involved in the response to the acute trauma.

Roentgenologic and endoscopic comparisons during granulomatous colitis (Crohn's disease). pp. 106--112

Summary: The authors have made a comparative analysis of the results of roentgenologic and endoscopic research of large intestine at granulomatous colitis. The precursory symptoms of the disease are better revealed by endoscopy, the later ones are better detected by double contrast irrigoscopy. The best results are to be expected by the combined application of both diagnostic methods.

The effect of incorporated radionuclides on key enzyme activity of pentose-phosphate pathway under thiamine deficiency. pp. 113--116

Summary: In vivo experiments have shown that glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and transketolase activity was changed by 137Cs and 90Sr administered with food. Radionuclides against a background of B1-deficiency result in significant inhibition of enzyme activity in whole blood, young red blood cells and liver -- and myocardium tissues. Metabolic changes under thiamine deficiency are aggravated by endogenous ionizing radiation.
